School Resumes January 3rd
We serve nearly 4,163 students who are military dependents from Joint Base Lewis McChord. Learn more about how we’re partnering to support the unique needs of our military families. The focus of the trip was to see and discuss ancient art from Mesopotamia and Greece – an area they are currently exploring in class – as well as learn the history of the library and museum. Congratulations to our Carmel High School students who were among 25 students that were recently sworn in as Putnam County Youth Court members.

To our Carmel parents and guardians, thank you for sharing your children with us and allowing us to help them grow every day. Our district has spectacular students and that stems from you as parents and guardians. Your support, partnership, and active involvement in your child’s educational journey are a testament to our shared desire for success for each district student.

The Governing Board has declared the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Kindness Day in the Amphitheater District. Amphitheater Public Schools students display artistic talents at Tucson Mall. A first-of-its-kind unmanned aerial and marine piloting program is gaining momentum for students in Galveston Independent School District’s Career and Technical Education program at Ball High School this fall.

That was the scene in Danielle Marino’s History of Art class as the students recently took a virtual field trip to the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. It was a lesson in shaking, rattling, and rolling for Earth Science students in Tracy Brusie’s classes at George Fischer Middle School during a unit on earthquakes. Students used their geology skills and compasses to interpret seismographs from three separate locations, finding the arrival times of primary waves (p-waves) and secondary waves (s-waves) in order to determine the earthquake's epicenter. To be inducted, senior students must have completed at least four business education classes, including at least one college-credit-bearing course, while maintaining an 88% average in those business education courses and an overall average of 85% or greater.

I hope everyone can recharge over the holiday break and use the time to connect with family and friends. Strategic Planning focus groups are scheduled for January 4-6, 2023, at select times during the day for different populations. We are looking to include a cross-section of our parents and community to ensure a holistic representation of our district population. Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, Deborah Weisel departed from her role as interim principal of Carmel High School as scheduled. Back in September, I shared with you that Anthony DiCarlo had been appointed to the interim principal position beginning November 16. Congratulations to GISD Executive Director of Secondary Education Matthew Neighbors on receiving the Texas Association of Administrators Johnny L Veselka Scholarship.
Board members reviewed the comments at their Dec. 14 Board Meeting, and will consider it as they continue looking at options. Berkeley County School District would like to recognize its middle and high school students who qualified for All-County Chorus! More than 200 students, representing six high schools and nine middle schools across the district, made the cut this year. We provide a world class education, preschool through graduation, for students from Lakewood & JBLM.

He began his teaching career as a reading teacher at Kildonan School, where he was also the Social Studies Coordinator and Department Chair. In 2010, he began teaching middle school Social Studies in Millbrook Central School District where he also completed his administrative internship. His educational leadership experience expanded in his roles as Assistant Principal in two schools in Arlington Central School District, where he also had the opportunity to serve as a Committee on Special Education chair. Most recently, Michael has served as an elementary school principal and MTSS Coordinator in Millbrook Central School District. Thank you to our teachers and staff for continuing to make connections with our students every day and supporting them in their educational journey. The Roselle Public School District is committed to and will prepare All of our students for college, work, and life.

Now that the stressors of the pandemic have been greatly reduced and we are able to safely gather together, it is the perfect opportunity to start our Coffee & Connections with the Superintendent events. It has been my desire since I joined the district last year to host regularly scheduled gatherings to hear directly from our parents and community. I am writing to you today to share some exciting district initiatives underway and upcoming community events where you can join in the conversation to help shape the future of our district. As a reminder, should there be a need to delay opening, close schools or dismiss students early from school due to inclement weather, a recorded phone call, email and text will go out from the District. Our district has made so many positive strides forward during her time with us and we are grateful for all that she has done. We will surely miss having her as part of our administrative team, even if it was only temporary, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Additionally, they must demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership, and service in the classroom and through extracurricular involvement. We are excited for Michael to join the district’s administrative team and we look forward to working with him at Kent Elementary School. We also thank our interim principal, Anthony DiCarlo, for his dedicated guidance in the role over the last several weeks. The last time we reviewed a strategic plan for the district was prior to the pandemic and so much has changed in two years! We are excited to embark on this journey over the next several months with the goal of a unified plan for our district’s future.
For the seventh year in a row, student artists were encouraged to enter the Superintendent’s Greeting Card Contest to showcase their talent and creativity. November marks the launch of the initial phase of a four-month Accreditation Review Process with Cognia. To prepare All of our students for college, work and life in high performing Roselle Public Schools.
The award is presented to outstanding doctoral students pursuing careers in educational leadership, with leadership emphasis on the superintendency. The district hired two architecture firms to conduct feasibility studies at West High and Highland High. In looking at future of these two schools, the district hopes to prioritize a high quality of education for all students and to recognize the rich heritage in these school communities. District schools will be open on all regularly scheduled school days unless circumstances create health or safety issues.

We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to our buildings for the first day of the school year later this week. As a reminder, Thursday, September 1, will be a full day of school for our students in grades 1-12, and a modified school day for our incoming kindergarten students with an orientation and bus run. Detailed information about the schedule for the incoming kindergarten students was emailed directly from the elementary schools’ principals.
